Secondly...(and this part get's slightly personal and is a bit random since I haven't posted a journal here in such a long time...If you're not for a conversation on religion/spirituality you may want to avoid this part...Also, if you are very Christian you can do your best to convince me that Christianity is better than all other religions but you'll fail miserably if you end up saying the wrong thing...choose your words carefully now.)
So...
I've seriously had problems with Christianity for a while now. Not necessarily because certain people around me because most of my friends are Christian. My main problems with it are the hypocrisies with it and the people who feel that Christianity is the only right belief system. I do hold a bit of resentment towards it because I was (and still am even though I'm 20) forced to go to church. I don't understand what I'm supposed to fear about hell because no one can get their story straight about what's so scary about it. What is it? Is it fire? Absence of God? Demons? It can be all three, but no one speaks of it in that way.
Also I really disagree with a lot of what the church teaches. I believe in evolution because the idea that we were created magically from dirt doesn't makes sense to me. Plus the proof is there. Fossils and the like...I don't believe this whole thing that says that fossils were planted by the devil. Plus I don't think homosexuality is wrong or immoral. Love is love in my book. I'll admit that for a while my mom had me believing there was something wrong about it (though I never admitted that to anyone...but my friends picked up on it 'cause I'd never even read a shounen-ai manga (Gravitation to be exact)), but deep down, I didn't really believe it. I came to my own conclusion on the issue and me and my mom greatly disagree on this.
And the biggest reason that I have problems with Christianity is because more focus is placed on the doctrines than the spirituality. This doesn't seem right. It's built of the spiritual aspect yet when people speak of being Christian, they do nothing but quote the bible and say that this this and that is wrong and if you do believe in these things things then you're immoral.
So...behind my mother's back (I'm sure my dad doesn't really care for religion and wouldn't care if I didn't want to be Christian anymore...), I'm looking up different things. I'm trying to be more spiritual because I think it will help keep me grounded and help me out with my stress (the meditation aspect of it at least). Yet I'm still being forced to go to church and I wish she'd let me decide for my own what I want to believe in instead of trying to force stuff on me. I'd gladly let her let me speak one on one with someone in my church if they won't be judgmental about things and speak to me rationally. I've always wanted to hold a rational conversation with someone who's very religious and why they would care about what I believe...I'm sure that'll never happen.
For anyone who actually read that...kudos and you know know what goes on in my mind most of the time. X3
I would've put this on FA, but every time I bring up the subject of religion this one member always ends up talking about how childish religion is and I really hate that. I brought up how I was interested in some rather "out-there" topics and they said that I was trying to convert myself to some other belief (which was untrue), yet the spent their time trying to convert me to Atheism...I confronted them on that and the never responded yet they kept talking about how childish religion is...So I'll sparingly bring the topic up there...I'll try to avoid it.
Regardless of my feelings on religion, I don't like hearing people putting down the beliefs of others.

another thing. i believe the evolution theory as well. i have read at least 10 different issues of bible ALL the way through, and i am not saying there is no higher authority, but i do not believe in a lot of what the bible says.. likea dam and eve. If incest is wrong, how did billions of people, come from two.. Why is there no proof of heaven or hell, etc etc.
This is a topic that once i start on, its hard to get me off of lol. I personally believe in a higher power, but i do not belong to any religion, because religion can be strict, i personally believe, if we are worshipping the same higher authority. Then why waste our time arguing over whos right about doing it and whos wrong. Religion, and no offense, especially christianity, is far too forced.
I myself have been raised in a christian family, and grew up for many years trying to rebel against it, but later on I chose to join up with it again for personal reasons.
While I do support the church what I don't support is people flailing their religion at others claiming it is the "right one". That's irresponsible and tells you a lot about the person doing it if you ask me.
I say if you want to join a religion then do it, after all it IS your choice, but if you don't want to then don't.

I would love to hear an explanation for why you're being so ridiculous.
That's another one of the hypocrisies of Christianity. The bible says "Judge not lest ye be judged" and "Love thy neighbor as you would love thyself" and yet they turn around and do crap like that.
Ooh...the incest thing...never thought of that one. I just focused on the being magically created from dirt. But that's completely true. We abhor incest today and pity children born of it, yet how did we all come from just two people. Especially when it comes to different ethnicities. And I've always wondered on the proof of heaven and hell too. People are so certain that hell is full of burning fires and that you're greeted into heaven by large pearly or golden gates. But there is no proof of this. Plus I just figure that if there is an afterlife I'd spend my time on earth scaring the heck outta people. X3
And I'm with you. This is a topic that I have a very strong opinion on and always want to debate on, but I'm not one for confrontation. I believe in a higher power to because there are so many unexplainable things that happen. I don't think science can explain everything. But these extremists really bug me. And these crazy far right wing nuts like Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, etc. really get on my nerves and prove what's wrong with religion. I'm choosing to explore being spiritual and I think that's what religion is missing most of all...

Living in my house, I feel like I don't have the choice. I know that choosing my own beliefs is up to me, but I wish that my mom didn't struggle to get me to be Christian and would just let me form my own opinions.
Like...I'm sure that if I said I was learning about animal totems in my house, my mom would find huge fault with that. My dad would just think it's stupid and would then ignore it...
But yeah...I'm still debating what it is or isn't that I believe in...I do know that I'd rather not associate with any religion though. I don't think that you have to belong to a group to be spiritual. So even if I did choose to have Christian-esque beliefs, I don't think I'd call myself a Christian.

And like you said about judging others and treating others as you would treat thyself. I mean, your sinning if your wronging gay people, or people who worship differently, or dont believe. There was lots more i wanted to say.. but ihonestly forgot XD
As for the Twilight/vampire thing...yeah that get's annoying. Though I do believe in vampires (but not the way hollywood way...definitely not in the Twilight way).
Every Christian sins without thinking that they're sinning because they feel like they aren't doing those specific sins. It's so stupid...

I just meant the whole OH MUH GODZ I LURVE THE EDWARD LET'S GO BUY FAKE VAMPIREZ TEETH FROM THE HAWT TOPIK AND PUT THEM IN AN BYTE PEOPLEZ! kinda thing XD
For various reasons, I have adopted a somewhat extreme atheistic point of view, but I find theistic debate itself rather pointless. The human mind is ridiculously prone to coming up with flawed conclusions, to the point that it is exceedingly difficult to maintain such a non-religious point of view, and I don't wish that kind of burden on anyone who doesn't want it, because we have better things to worry about. It's kind of like trying to argue about music, its completely pointless because people will like whatever genre they like.
Do I think religion is bad? Personally, yes. Do I really care if someone is religious? No. It isn't and shouldn't be a priority. People have better things to do in life then worry about religion and heaven and hell and all that crap. Believe what you want to believe because I'm sure your stress is better spent elsewhere on more pressing problems.
It's kind of like the gay thing. Why are these people spending so much time protesting something that doesn't affect them in the least? Don't they have better things to do, like I don't know, feed all the starving kids in India?!
My only recommendation to you is to keep your priorities straight. I strongly support your desire to not associate with any religious group. You shouldn't have to worry about silly things like people criticizing your spirituality. It's your spirituality and if it works for you then everyone else can take a hike. You have a right to not worry about things you shouldn't have to worry about.
I have strong opinions about everything, but I've stopped voicing them after I realized the only people listening to me are the ones that agree with me in the first place. So now I'm merely offering a supporting opinion here - do your own thing. History was never made by sheep.

Yeah, those crazy people need help if they believe they're a vampire because they read a book. Either they need help because they can see the differences between reality and fiction, or they're really that stupid. Book wasn't that great anyways...X3

i personally didn't read the book, nor even watch the movie, but i have this one 13 yr old friend (im 16) who obsesses over it all, she bought fangs up at our hot topic, and wore them to school and stuff. And before she even had the fangs, she bites A LOT. she sent kids home from school because shed bite them so bad to the point where they were bleeding.. not to sound awkward but i personally enjoy biting here and there, just not when people like nom on my flesh XD
